All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad.  The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years.  The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.
This rare and phenomenal collector's item is a spectacular work of art.  The 15 1/4" x 19" large photograph in the center is a photo that was taken of a collage (that combined actual photographs of the cavalry unit with a painted "setting").  This spectacular piece of Austrian / German art / militaria  is now 100 years old.  The lithographed border is by itself a spectacular work of art.  On the flags at the top of the border it reads: Mit Gott fur Kaiser und Vaterland.  Along the bottom border of the lithographed mat it reads:  Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit.  The exterior dimensions of the original frame are 23 1/4" x 27 1/2".  The frame molding is about 1 1/4" wide and under 7/8" deep.
When you look closely at the large scene, you realize that it is a combination of photos and a painted backdrop.  The entire image is one photograph that was taken of the "collage".  The dirigible and the flying machine in the sky are part of the painted "setting".  There are a lot of flags and beer steins in the scene.  In addition to all of the members of the cavalry, we see their blacksmiths  (center left middle ground).  In the far middle background there is a horse drawn carriage and a horse drawn cart.  The sign at the center near the top reads:  Nach der HEIMAT.  The words on the tablecloth on the center table read:  Wer weis ob wir uns wiedersehen ----  and on the tablecloth at the right it reads:  Reserve hat Ruh.  The banner at the bottom has 1902 at the left and 1912 at the far right.  It reads H. Esk. Konigl. Bayr. Chevaul. Regt. Erzherz. Friedrich von Oesterreich.  Below the banner, in small letters, it reads:  Drei Jahre treu fur's Vaterland!                              [Please excuse any errors in our reading / transcription of the "text".]
For its age, and especially since there is no glass protecting it, it is in good AS IS condition.  There are scratches, abrasions, marks, water marks (note the lower edge at the center and just to the right of center), a dark mark (just below the center table), etc. .............  It is wonderful that it is still in its original frame -- even though it too has condition problems --- chips, scratches, missing sections, etc.  Only one of the original leather hanging "tabs"  at the top of the frame has survived.
So if you want an authentic and unique European military collectible that predates World War I, here it is !
This is a one of a kind  Austrian / German military unique collectible from 1912 ---- with an extraordinary group view of the Bavarian cavalry under Friedrich (Frederick) of Austria.  We have owned this phenomenal piece for many decades, and we are now offering it for sale, hoping that it will go to the right "new home".
{NOTE:  Several dealers in militaria have had different opinions about what this is ---- probably because of a range of abilities in translating the German text.  Feel free to provide us more correct information.}
This is being SOLD AS IS and with LOCAL PICK UP ONLY.  But we will be glad to refer you to a shipper or to a local FED EX or UPS STORE for packing and shipping services.  You will pay the contractor directly for packing and shipping services.

Payment
