    Description

Spessartite is an orange to orange-red form of the gemstone Garnet. The term Garnet describes a group name for several closely related minerals that form important gemstones, and Spessartite is an individual member mineral of the Garnet group. The material has a hardness on the Moh’s scale of 7 and an Adamantine luster. Spessartite has an exceptionally high refractive index, giving cut Spessartite gemstones a special brilliance.
This gem is a natural Spessartite Garnet, having a highly desirable deep Orange color known in the trade as "Mandarin Orange," a high degree of clarity, with an excellent quality cushion mixed cut. It is very sparkly and has a lot of life in it. This item has a Chanthaburi Gemological Laboratory (GLC) certification that attests to its authenticity and natural state.
The GLC provides accurate dimensions for this stone as 9.49 x 9.28 x 7.32 mm, with a total weight of 6.11 carats (about 1.2 grams). Although the certificate does not speak to Country of Origin (a report that raises the fee to 0), the original dealer specified an African origin from Namibia, which has rich deposits of this type of Garnet. The clarity was presented as VVS1 (very very slightly included) with inclusions only visible at higher magnification.
Due to its excellent color and high refraction, this piece would make an excellent candidate for a ring or other jewelry creation. A later photograph in the series shows the underside of the stone (the pavilion and culet) and the final one an image of the GLC certificate: the original is included with the purchase of this item. Seller covers the cost of insurance against loss or damage in transit.
