    Description

    Approx. 3 3/4" tall x 4 3/4" wide, this leather pouch is well marked and is in good - very good condition. The drawstring is frayed and retied, but the pouch is very good with no holes and an intact snap clasp. Slightly discolored on some areas, but very rare. This pouch was awarded to approx. 800 officers at the War Fleet Show on Oct. 12, 1912, at the Hotel Astor. It was a mobilization week of the Atlantic Fleet issued by the Navy Dept. Events of the official day include 'Bluejackets to Parade', and showing off the fleet with dignitaries present, including President Taft. Then the officers were guests of the city at a smoker at Hotel Astor and were given the pouch. A great historic military item. Good luck!
