The regiment originates from the dragoons of Colonel M. S. Zhdanov and has seniority since May 27, 1701, although on December 23, 1700, the near boyar Prince Boris Alekseevich Golitsin was entrusted by Peter I with the recruitment and formation of 10 dragoon regiments in the lower cities; on May 21, 1701, the regiment was reviewed by Sheremetev. The regiment received its baptism of fire on December 29, 1701 (January 9, 1702) in the Battle of Erestfer. Since 1702, the regiment has been named after the new commander of the regiment, Prince P. F. Meshchersky, and since March 10, 1708, it has been called Vladimir. In the battle of Lesnaya, on September 28, 1708, up to 100 personnel of the unit were out of action. The Vladimir regiment participated in the Battle of Poltava, and near Brailov on July 13, 1711, it stood in the first line, and the dismounted Vladimirites, with General Rennet in front, bravely attacked the enemy's fortifications.
