Description
This stunning badge was made in Austria by Rothe & Neff. It is marked with the 3A Chamois Gemsenkopf for gold and the makers mark of FR in a rhombus on both the bail ring and the area under the crown. It is additionally marked under the crown with the letter A. It dates to around 1900. It has an enamel F in gold and blue on the front and 1815 on the back. It has additional enamel "jewels" around the bottom. It measures about 59mm long and 29mm wide. It is in lovely vintage condition with some wear/chipping to the enamel jewels. Mainly the white jewels have the damage as well as one red diamond shaped one. We do not have the ribbon. The Order of the Iron Crown was established in 1815 by Emperor Franz I of Austria and continued to be one of the highest orders of merit until 1918. There were three classes of the order. We are not sure which order we have in this badge. This is a rare find in any of the orders.
